    LE CHATEAU DE PEYREPERTUSE (OCCITAN)

    Apres Aguilar et Quéribus, direction Peyrepertuse. Le château de Peyrepertuse apparait dès 1070, à une époque où Pérapertusès était dans la mouvance des comtes de Barcelone (1111) : le château devient un fief de la vicomté de Narbonne. Au cours de la croisade contre les albigeois, Guillaume de Peyrepertuse, ne voulant pas se soumettre, est excommunié en 1224. Après le siège de Carcassonne, Guillaume se soumet, et le château devient possession française en novembre 1240. St Louis ordonne la réalisation de l’escalier qui porte son nom aujourd’hui. Avec le traité de Corbeil 1258 Peyrepertuse devient l’une des forteresses royales françaises avancées sur la frontière du royaume d’Aragon (Peyrepertuse devient l’un des cinq fils de Carcassonne). En 1285 le château sert de résidence forcée à des notables de Perpignan lors de la guerre de Philippe le Hardi contre les catalans. D’autre dates on marqué l’histoire du château (1355, 1367, 1368, 1542). Déclassé comme ses frères après le traité des Pyrénées (1659), il perd son intérêt stratégique. Il est abandonné aux premières années de la révolution où il et vendu comme « bien national » en 1820. Au pied du château se trouve le village de Duilhac, avec son centre médiéval qui mérite de s’y arrêter. De là vous pouvez avec un peu d’exercice atteindre les portes du château.
